Belarus, along with the rest of the world, is celebrating the 2,000th anniversary of Christianity. In this regard, the Catholic Church has chosen the image featured on the commemorative coin of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus as the symbol of the great anniversary. At its center is a cross encircling the globe, a reminder that Christ died to save all people. The three lines that form the cross symbolize the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Light radiates from the center of the cross—a symbol of Christ, the only Redeemer of humanity "yesterday, today, and forever." Five doves symbolize the five continents. Their intertwining signifies the unification of peoples and the unity of spirit of God's children. The main relics of the Catholic Church in Belarus are the Minsk Archcathedral, the Grodno, and the Pinsk Cathedras. The Minsk Cathedral is a monument of Baroque architecture. It was built on the main square of medieval Minsk. The Pinsk Diocese was founded in 1396. The Grodno Diocese was built by the Jesuits in 1678 in the center of Grodno. It is a monument of Baroque architecture. Pope John Paul II elevated this holy site to the status of a basilica in 1990.
